Buses PDF

Unfortunately Littlebury is not well served by bus services, but with a little planning it is possible to travel to Cambridge Town Centre, Addenbrooke's Hospital, Saffron Walden (High Street and Tesco Store), Audley End Station and Audley End House. Once in Saffron Walden there are frequent services to Stansted Airport and Bishops Stortford with occasional journeys to Haverhill and some outlying villages. Concessionary travel passes may be used on all services.

Free timetables for individual services are available at the Saffron Walden Tourist Office and a more comprehensive timetable can be purchased for £1. Detailed timetables can be found on the Essex County Council web site www.essexcc.gov.uk/publictransport or www.travelinesoutheast.org.uk or by telephoning 0845 600 0110 (01245 437630 for the Shopper Bus).

Currently Littlebury Parish Council is making strong representation to Essex CC to improve bus services in Littlebury, but meanwhile we would encourage every Littlebury resident to ease traffic congestion and help the environment by using the existing public transport wherever possible.

The following bus services currently operate through Littlebury village centre:

−    Route 101  Whittlesford to Saffron Walden (High Street and Tesco Store).   Tuesday mornings only.   Bus stops are at the Bus Shelter and Kents Farm.
−    Route 132  Saffron Walden (High Street) to Cambridge (Addenbrooke's  Hospital and City Centre).   Sundays and Bank Holidays every two hours.   Bus stops are at Kents Farm and the Bus Shelter.
−    Route 445  Barley and Saffron Walden (High Street and Tesco Store).   Some journeys daily except Sundays; others Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.   This service also serves Littlebury Green and Catmere End.    It operates in a clockwise loop around Littlebury (High Street, Walden Road and Mill Road) both to and from Saffron Walden.    It may be hailed wherever it is safe for the bus to stop.
−    Shopper Bus  Littlebury to Saffron Walden (High Street and Tesco Store).   Tuesday and Friday mornings only.

The following service serves Littlebury Turn (the B184 junction of Walden Road and Springwell Road) and does not enter the village:

−    CITI 7  Saffron Walden (High Street) to Cambridge (Addenbrooke's Hospital and City Centre).    Daily, hourly except Sundays.      Note that the timetable for this service will be completely revised when the Guided Bus commences in Cambridge during 2010.

The 445 bus service was introduced in September 2008 to give Littlebury parish residents a better service to Saffron Walden and Newport.    Unfortunately it has not been very well patronised and is under threat of withdrawal (school jouneys excepted).   As this is Littlebury's first new service since the demise of route 42 some years ago it would be a pity to lose it.   Please let your friends and neighbours know of the service and encourage them to use it.

Timetables change frequently.   Please check the latest times before travelling.

NB In Littlebury Green, there isn't a formal bus stop (i.e. pole and flag) currently installed, although the stopping point for this service is opposite Thomas Walk if heading in the direction of Saffron Walden, and adjacent to Thomas Walk if heading towards Chrishall.
